Q3 So how do I clean pearls and opals? Can I get them wet? |
|
A3. Pearls and opals should be lightly polished with a soft cotton cloth. A splash of water won't damage them, but prolonged contact with water might. Pearls, although they are formed underwater, are drilled for threading. The problems occur when water gets trapped inside the pearl. In it's natural state under the ocean, this would never occur. Solid opals are not affected at all by water, but the problem here is that any people do not know if their opal is solid, doublet or triplet. Unless you are 100% sure that your opal is solid, it's best not to come in contact with a lot of water.
